During its more than 90 years of history, the Cornélio Brennand Group has built an unrivalled reputation for its dynamism, integrity and excellence in all its businesses and actions. Always open to new business opportunities and driven by its strong entrepreneurial spirit, the Cornélio Brennand Group has endeavored unrelenting efforts to diversify its portfolio and expand its activities into a vast array of industries.

Since its inception in the ceramics segment, the Group has expanded its businesses along the decades to several other sectors: porcelain; ceramic tiles; sugar and ethanol; cement; and container glass manufacturing. Presently, its companies play a leading role in important markets, such as renewable power generation, real estate development, cement and float glass production. Group companies comprise Atiaia Energia, Iron House, Cimento Portland Participações and Vivix.

Every Cornélio Brennand Group undertaking is marked by its environmental concerns and social responsibility. In Atiaia Energia, for instance, the six Small Hydropower Plants (PCHs) set up in the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Pernambuco strictly abide by prevailing environmental rules and offer

socio-environmental awareness and education programs to neighboring communities. The output capacity of Atiaia Energia’s PCHs alone can cater to a city with half a million inhabitants.

Among other ventures of real estate development company Iron House, the Reserva do Paiva resort in Pernambuco stands out as an urban expansion area that brings together economic growth interests and the environmental protection concerns as a means of attaining sustainable development. Carbon emission reductions, the value of biodiversity, and waste reuse mechanisms were all taken into consideration in this project. Access to Reserva do Paiva is made through Rota dos Coqueiros, the first public-private partnership (PPP) in the State of Pernambuco, to which the Cornélio Brennand Group is a party since its inception.

In the float glass business, the company’s plant will count on state-of-the-art sustainability practices. As an energy management reference, the plant will apply the L.E.M.™ (Low Energy Melter™) to its production process, a pioneering technology that will allow for greater energy efficiency and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, when compared to the

average of float glass industries worldwide. Following the country’s climate change policy that favors the use of less polluting energy sources in production activities, natural gas will serve as the source of energy for glass melting.

For other stages of the production process and for general plant lighting, Vivix will use electric power from renewable sources (PCHs and bioethanol mills).

The use of energy-saving lamps and the management of waste from both, the production process (broken glass) and human consumption (selective waste collection), coupled with optimal use of natural lighting and ventilation, will all contribute to making the whole process more eco-friendly.

As yet another sustainable measure, Vivix will engage in rainwater impounding (for use in the glass manufacturing process) and in ongoing reuse of effluents generated at the unit. Treated water will return to the process and will also be used for irrigation of green areas, thus creating a systematic cycle that avoids the discharge of effluents into rivers or water streams.
